HAPPY THANKSGIVING 2010

WOW - how quickly the year went - it feels as though I was telling you about the things I am grateful for only a couple of months ago! This year I'm going to keep it simple, because I read in a book that that is the foundationn for many things we do in life.

So as we think of the things that we are each Thankful for, keep it simple. My staples remain the same, good health, family and friends, and love. Which is most probably the same for a lot of people when you dig right down to the surface - so I say Thank You for My Health, My Family, My Friends and the Love that exudes from all my personal connections.

I also want to say a Big Thank You for anyone reading this blog.

THANK YOU

Silver is on the rise!

Yes, it's true the Silver : Gold ratio now stands at  59.6 - so what's that mean, well simply put it means that the price of silver is currently $22.11 and the price of gold is $1,317.

OK, OK, so I still don't get it. Well understand this Silver is a rising commodity not surprising as it's been admired since ancient times and it's now widely used in industry as well, everything from electronics to medical equipment, obviously we prefer it's use in Silver Jewelry a market sector which is growing mainly due to the wonderful designs achieved by designers.

Talking of which, do you realise that a Sterling Silver and CZ wedding engagement set can start from as little as $30.00. Yes, they do look fabulous and to prove it here's a little story, actually three little stories.

Story 1.
I've been married for just over three years, and I have a great husband, but not a great engagement ring - we'd skipped the process and went straight for the wedding, so I have a wedding band - anyway, I decided to "test" the rings that we have on a few friends so this is how it went.

Going to a social gathering with friends, I put my CZ enagement ring on with my wedding ring, weeellll - I had so much ooohs and aahs and all my friends telling my husband what a great ring he'd choosen for me!
He's rolling his eyes, but in agreement with me, he'd let me tell them that it was part of a Sterling Silver CZ ring st that cost $38.00, imagine the shock on my friends faces when I eventually told them - needless to say however, a couple of them purchased a set too!

Story 2.
A lady I play golf with damaged her white gold and diamond ring set whilst playing golf! She purchased the same ring set I have and voila no one knows!! (maybe now they do).

Story 3.
I hosted a jewelry event about a month ago, a couple came in the husband lurking at the door, the wife asking about our jewelry, I pointed out the same ring set mentioned above and guess what - she was beside herself in shock when she heard the price - this is what she did, she called her husband over and told him that she wanted to buy the ring set for $500.00 yes $500.00 it wasn't a typo, here's the kicker, he wanted to know if they were going to get the cash out now or pay by check.

So, what ring set am I talking about simply this one, a great set at a great price, our best selling CZ ring set.
My suggestion, order a set for yourself and marvel at it's beauty, remember if your not bowled over with it, we provide a 30 day guarantee!

Enjoy
Jeanette

Summer Heat - Add some Vibrancy!

Phew the summer has just been rushing by - it's been hot here in Maryland we've had some seriously "Melt Down" days.

I've seen more ladies in short shorts and beautiful little tops than in a long time, with gorgous vibrant jewelry pieces of course. I'm now on a semi-health kick myself, so that I too can look fab in my summer clothes! (there's always next year!)

Anyway, we've been busy here at Jewelry To Adore, we have now secured a new line of jewelry which should be on our site starting next week.

We've also been making the site even better for shopping by joining up with Network Solutions to keep everyone safe whilst they shop.

So as we get ready to roll into the second half of August and my family and I decide where were going for a late summer break we encourage you to embrace the fresh outdoors (heat 'n' all) and look fab doing it too!

Add color to your look with Jewlery, this bracelet looks fab with summer outfits!

As the 68th Cannes Film Festival enters it's second week, Monday night saw the Swiss Jewelers Chopard celebrating it's 150th Anniversary with an A List bash.

The event certainly had it's share of Glam participants such as Paris Hilton, who was maxed out in fabulous baubles. The anniversary event also saw an appearance by actresses Meg Ryan, Kate Beckinsale, Marion Cotillard, Naomi Watts, Lindsay Lohan. Models Naomi Campbell, Eva Herzigova and Dree Hemingway. Lady Victoria Hervey and Princess of Venice and Piedmont Clotilde Courau and so many more.

Do you have $92,500 for a set of pearls?

When I last posted I talked about the fact that the price of pearls can vary, well, Christies (you know the fab. Auction House co.) held an auction for an 18 inch pearl necklace, consisting of a set of five strands of pearls, with three graduated strands of golden pearls alternating with two graduated strands of white pearls, finished off with a circular cut diamond openwork clasp in white gold. They exceeded the estimated $50,000-$70,000. The cost $92,500 (with buyers premium of course).

Wow, well they are beautiful and clearly an investment that will be a sheer pleasure to wear.

Why Does the price of pearls vary?

So why do the price of pearls vary so much?

Ah, I'm so glad you asked. You see Pearls have a rather special place in the halls of "The Jewelry World". Worn and adored by Royalty and the Rich and Famous through the ages. The lustrous Pearl conjours up ideas of sophistication, glamour and style. Known for their symbol of purity, love and truth, they have also been the gem of choice for many brides - naturaly!

how to save at least 10% OFF

Pearls were once used for trading in the place of currency - so much was placed on their value. However, at those times Pearls were "found" and not harvested - more about that in "About Pearls"!

So, what really distinguishes one pearl from another, first of all, ask, what kind of pearl is it? is it a Tahitian "Black Pearl", a Freshwater Pearl, A South Sea Pearl or an Akoya Pearl. Now bear in mind we are only talking about cultured pearls here, that is one that is farmed as the majority of pearls on the market today are!

Of all the above pearls the South Sea is the most expensive, because it tends to be the biggest, often around 12mm, for this reason they tend to be used in pendants or earrings and less so on strands as the cost for a strand of south sea pearls is much much higher than it's freshwater pearl or akoya pearl cousins. But as in life biggest does not always mean best.

Pearls are graded by (mainly, but not only) color, size, lustre, shape, flaws.

Pearls come in a rainbow of colors, although typically South Sea pearls have a golden color, Freshwater and Akoya pearls a cream color and Tahitian pearls a deep black blue appearance. These colors would be what is called the primary color of the pearl, however pearls give off a glow which is known as the overtone, mostly rose, silver and cream and with South Sea pearls add golden, to Tahitian add peacock.

So, once you take into consideration a pearls size, look for the lustre, you know the glow that seems to come from deep within the pearl. Lustre is created by the oyster layering it's initial irritant with this natural chemical which hardens over time, well the more nacre evenly deposited the better the lustre.

The shape of pearls help to really define its worth, for example take a South Sea pearl, if you are making it into a wonderful pendant you want that pearl to do a lot of work and look fabulous so it's shape is must work very hard as it stands alone, the shape is super important.

However when creating a strand of pearls, consider this, for a strand to look great from end to end, all of the pearls must be of similar high quality. And it is with strands that most people get confused with the pricing. A strand of freshwater pearls is cheaper than a strand of akoya pearls, however akoya pearls are often graded between an A, AA, AA+, and AAA. Whilst there is no real grading system currently in place this will give you an idea of the quality of the pearl with AAA being the best, that is the quality of each pearl, color, size, shape and matching.

As you can see there is a lot to take in when considering purchasing pearls, but the most important is compare like for like, i.e. a 7.5-8mm strand of pearls will vary in price depending on the type of pearl, i.e. freshwater or akoya, the same clasp, is it silver, gold or platinum, is there a diamond or other precious gem in the clasp.

Hopefully this will answer some of your questions, but most of all love your pearls and treat them with care and they will last you a lifetime.
