We all knew the stories of Elizabeth Taylors Jewels, made famous if not only for their gloriousness of size, rarity and provence but by the romantic grandeur bestowed upon her by Richard Burton and her desire to own fabulous pieces.
This past Tuesday, the iconic actress' famous pearls and diamonds sold for roughly $116 million at Christies, oblitarating the record of the previous single collection back in 1987 of the Duchess of Windsor's jewels.

Notably amongst the collection was a 16th century pearl that once belonged to Mary Tudor of England and Spanish queens Margarita and Isabel. Richard Burton purchased the jewel in 1969 for $37,000 an outrageous price at the time, however it sold for a record $11,842,500, beating its estimated $2-$3million price!
Some of Burtons other great gifts to Taylor included a 33.19-carat diamond bought in 1968 which sold for $8,818,500 to South Korean hotel conglomerate Eland World which will go on display in one of Eland World’s hotels.
Other pieces includes The Taj Mahal Diamond, yet another Burton to Taylor Gift for her 40th birthday and a Van Cleef & Arpels Ruby & Diamond ring given to her for Christmas in 1968.
